Unsafe Road Conditions
Road Safety & Elimination of Hazardous Roads
Every citizen has the right to travel on safe and well-maintained roads. Yet, thousands of road accidents in India are linked to poor road conditions such as potholes, damaged road surfaces, inadequate drainage, missing signboards, poor lighting, unauthorized speed breakers, and the absence of reflective road markings. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), potholes alone were responsible for hundreds of road accidents and dozens of fatalities in 2023, while government data presented in Parliament shows that 9,438 people lost their lives in pothole-related accidents between 2020 and 2024. These tragic deaths are entirely preventable and highlight the urgent need for better road maintenance and stronger accountability.

People's Collective India is committed to making India's roads safer by identifying hazardous road conditions, documenting potholes and other infrastructure defects, conducting citizen-led road safety audits, and reporting these issues to the concerned authorities for prompt action. We will also advocate for proper road engineering, scientifically designed speed breakers, clear traffic signage, reflective road markings, adequate street lighting, and safer pedestrian infrastructure. Through community participation, technology, and constructive engagement with government agencies, we aim to reduce preventable accidents and ensure that every journey is safe, every road is accountable, and every life is protected.
